WHEN Classes are AFTER SCHOOL 3ish to 4.30pm
WHO These classes are for Primary school age children, ages 5 to 11 yrs.
WHERE Classes are in different locations every day of the week.
OPEN Any class is open to the public, so that other schools can join in, and you can find a day and location that suits you best.
BOOKINGS All communication and booking goes through me and not the school/Hall.
STYLE Classes suit both boys and girls. The classes are all ages in together, which fosters learning and assisting between the older and younger students. The classes are gentle and nurturing in nature, and suit the quieter child.
SKILLS No skills are required. I teach everything that is needed to complete our project.
MATERIALS All materials are supplied as part of the course fee.
COURSE Enrolling into a course means attending for the whole term, as we work on one project which gets taken home on the last day.
Topics Overview
Topics rotate each term. See timetable below.
POTTERY
Our clay projects are artistic and sculptural. An artistic project for example, might be a flock of pottery birds that is glued onto a collage background of a sky. A sculptural clay piece might be village of little houses.
All clay is fired once, and then we hand paint them with acrylic paint. We don’t use glazes.
TEXTILES (FABRIC CRAFT)
This topic is working with fabric, and may or may not include actual sewing. Projects range from landscapes to teddies. We might use buttons, glue, dye, wax pastels, stitching, etc. Anything is possible.
If we are sewing I teach everybody all the basics using real needles and pins, even the 5 year olds are fine to learn these skills.
ART
This course is about exploring mediums to create beautiful 2D works. The works are normally quite large A2 (sometimes larger). The mediums are wax and chalk pastels, dyes, Indian Ink, charcoal, paint, wallpaper, pencils and pens. These topics are about exploring colour and connection. The topics are not studying other artists or other styles, but rather foster the child discovering themselves. I do not teach children to draw or do Fine art, as I feel that develops naturally as they get older, at this stage, confidence and enjoyment is my focus.
